Over 200 researchers who presented their work at the 10th Tanzania Health Summit (THS) in 2023 have got their abstracts published in the prestigious BMC Proceedings journal, achieving a significant milestone in their dissemination process.

The publication of abstracts in a scientific journal is a crucial step in disseminating research findings and establishing credibility within the academic community through credible summits, such as THS, said Dr, Omary Chillo, President of Tanzania Health Summit.

Presenting an abstract during the coming summit, he says, “it means taking science to a global scale.”

Dr. Chillo, who is also a lecturer in Physiology at Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), emphasized the importance of this initiative.

“Publishing an abstract in a renowned journal like BMC Proceedings validates the scientific significance of the presented work and paves the way for wider dissemination,” he said.

THIS supports the publication of abstracts in BMC Proceedings aiming to provide researchers with a platform to showcase their work and enhance their visibility. By citing their published abstracts in future research endeavors, researchers can strengthen their academic credentials and contribute to the advancement of their field.

The abstracts went live on September 1, 2024, in BMC Proceedings, a journal part of Springer Nature. This provides authors with the opportunity to connect with research communities worldwide and potentially expand their collaborations.

As THS prepares for its 11th edition, Dr. Chillo expressed optimism about the continued success of the initiative. “We have already received over 200 abstracts for this year’s summit in Zanzibar, and we anticipate even more groundbreaking research,” he said.

Beyond publishing their abstracts, it means that the researchers have a viable option of developing a full-fledged article and submitting it to a journal of their choice where their paper can be subjected to rigorous review.
