How YOCAB Transformed My Career Journey

4th August 2023 | Leadership
When Ms.Kawiche first heard about the YOCAB training program, she had no idea it would have such a profound impact in her leadership and career journey. As a leader, before attending the training, she had some confidence in her ability but after completing the program, she felt like a whole new person. This is her story…
“Madam Prudence Masako, one of the trainers, taught me valuable lessons about the power of leadership and how it can take you far in your career. As a result, I started looking for more opportunities and took on new challenges. Now, I am the Minister of Health and Gender at my university and have even bigger aspirations for my future.
The training also taught me about the dos and don’ts of leadership, which helped me become a better leader and earn the appreciation of my colleagues and peers. One of the most impactful sessions for me was from the Niajiri presentation. It helped me build my confidence, taught me how to introduce myself effectively, and showed me how to look for opportunities. Most importantly, I learned how to write a killer CV, which has helped me land job opportunities I never thought possible.
But YOCAB wasn’t just about leadership, it also opened my eyes to the possibilities beyond working in a hospital. I gained knowledge about finance and business, which has helped me understand the language of business people and build connections. This has been especially useful in my role as a Minister of Health and Gender.

One of the best things about YOCAB is that I got to meet people from different universities and learn about the amazing things they are doing in their own communities. This inspired me to bring those same opportunities to my own university. I am now the Professional and Leadership Development (PLD) Director in Rotaract club of Kairuki and I am using my newfound knowledge to give research skills training to HKMU students and planning to give more skills like career development for secondary schools and other more skills when time allows.
Lastly, YOCAB made me realize there are countless opportunities out there, but it’s up to us to put in the dedication and effort to make the most of them. I have learned to always look forward and make good decisions.
Thanks to Tanzania Health Summit through YOCAB, I am now a more confident leader, with a wider range of opportunities and a brighter future ahead.
